All-round physical conditioning. Capoeira is a multi-faceted sport and art form that promotes strength, coordination, flexibility, mental focus and creativity. Through Capoeira practice, a holistic approach is taken to healthy living and students of Capoeira see the positive effects of their training in their day to day lives. To begin, movements are slow and purposeful as the body learns to move with the music and rhythm. Strength, agility and confidence are built over time and students often find themselves fluidly moving through sequences they never thought were possible. As Capoeira is played in pairs, a newfound form of language and communication is fostered. Dynamic body movements played in the game of Capoeira are different every time one steps into a game. A Capoerista’s developing social skills and newfound capabilities allow them to express themselves better not just in practice but in school, work and at home.
Core Strength. Capoeira’s basic stance, the ginga (pronounced \jeeng-ga), activates the whole body and builds strong back and core muscles. Strengthening of this muscle group is essential in preventing back injuries especially for those who are sitting at a desk or computer for 8 or more hours a day. After a few months of even weeks of practicing Capoeira one might be surprised at the increased flexibility and stamina gained. As they say, time flies when you are having fun!
Capoeira family. The mix of ages, backgrounds and fitness levels within Capoeira schools allow students to mix and mingle with people they might not have known otherwise. Their love for the sport and unity when training together build a strong sense of camaraderie and espirit de corps, everyone is family. We hope to share the benefits that Capoeira can bring to the community in Brunei. Whether a person is super-fit or just beginning their fitness journey, young or young at heart, Capoeira has a place for everyone.
